DUE TO THE ONGOING OUTBREAK OF CORONAVIRUS ALL FORTHCOMING PERFORMANCES ARE SUSPENDED
The Essex Police Band is a high quality ensemble playing a wide range of brass band favourites. We are based in Chelmsford, Essex and travel to
all parts of the county to play concerts, play fanfares and perform at
Essex Police formal occasions.
The Band was formed on 4th April 1966 by some 20 serving Police Officers and Civilian Support Staff and we are proud that several founder members still have an active role in the Band and perform at concerts.
Membership of the current band is not restricted to Police Officers/Staff and we welcome support from members of the community.
In the beginning engagements were restricted to venues in Essex, and then as the reputation of the Band grew, invitations were received to perform further afield.
Prestigious engagements within the United Kingdom have included Sandringham House, The Barbican Centre, Wembley Stadium, Hereford Cathedral, The Liverpool International Police Band Festival, and visits to Northern Ireland as guests of the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
he Band's international career began with a trip to Bavaria in 1984 under the auspices of the Brentwood / Landkreis Roth Twinning Association. This proved to be the forerunner to a series of highly successful tours with six further visits to Germany along with visits to France, Holland, Austria, Belgium and in 2003 Prague for a Festival of European Police Music. The Band visited Backnang the twin town of Chelmsford to perform in their Strassenfest in 2005 and 2011.
Essex Police Band has performed before hundreds of thousands of people over the years, and has helped to raise in excess of one hundred and forty thousand pounds to date.
2006 was the 40th Anniversary of the Essex Police Band and recorded a CD to mark the occasion. The Band has also recorded a second CD excerpts of which can be heard on the 'listen' page of this site.
The Band plays for official Police functions including Medal Presentations and the Pensioners' Garden Party as well as other concerts throughout Essex, many organised in aid of local and national charities.
